A SYDNEY WEST NOVEL ~(3 Book Series)
SHADES OF SYDNEY by Brittney Coon
•Letting Love IN?
I just finished reading my 1st Brittney Coon book, SHADES OF SYDNEY. Which also happens to be a trilogy, I recommend reading all 3 books, by starting with this one and reading them in order. I absolutely LOVED the storyline. Sydney came to Malibu every summer to party & make memories. She didn’t have the best memories from her childhood. She only did one night stands, no point seeing a guy more than once. They’d get the idea you’d be an F-buddy or WORSE a girlfriend. Sydney never had trouble finding a man, she only had to bat her blue eyes and stick out her best asset, her large bust. She’d have men on their knees doing anything she asked just for a peek.
Sydney lived and went to college in Arizona but spent her summers in Malibu. She celebrated her years by summers, instead of the typical New Year or birthday, she had 20 years of summers in her album, it was time for some more partying and more summer boys. Sydney’s best friend Amelia wanted to come along this year to have some fun too. Once inside the nightclub Club Purple as a VIP guest with Amelia, she locked eyes with a guy who’s arms were thicker than her thighs. Just the type she could take to bed, he looked like the fun she needed, their eyes met and she knew it was on. But then she ran into her old high school friend Gaby, whom she couldn’t just blow off since she was her connection to the hottest parties. Although Sydney partied and looked for the *fly to catch in her spiderweb* for the night, she drew the line with “the monster”. She refused to use meth after watching her *father transform from a loving man into a worthless pile of skin**(direct book quote). After escaping the back room to go find Amelia, she ran into a wall of bone and muscle. The lights made his golden hair shine, all she wanted to do was reach out and touch it to see if it was as soft as it looked. When she looked into his eyes, she had to shake her head, they were a sparkling pool of silver… Man she needed to get laid! When they tried to part ways they both went the same way. He was sexy, but when they parted ways and she looked over her shoulder at him, he didn’t seem interested. Swallowing her pride she continued looking for Amelia. She was having drinks with the drummer of the band who just finished playing, with Amelia safely occupied, it was time to find her first summer boy of the season. Which she did & they had sex in the bathroom, when she came out Amelia was pretty drunk and ready to go home. They went surfing the next day, two hot guys came out toward them with their surf boards and asked if they needed any lessons. Even though the girls didn’t need them, Amelia jumped on the chance so they could get to know the boys. When Sydney looked into Hunters eyes she realized it was the same guy with the silver eyes that she bumped into the night before at the club. The one who didn’t seem interested at all, and still didn’t.
What was up with this guy? Amelia and Hunter more than had an instant connection, which kinda stuck Sydney & Jason together. Will he come around & be her next summer boy or is there more to life than one night stands? There are many twists and turns in this story, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Due to sexual situations, this book is recommended for readers 17 and older! I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review
**I scanned the dance floor, looking for flies to catch in my spider web **.
**He fit the bill of what my summer boy looked like: handsome, tall but not super tall, and he was giving me a look as if I had cast a siren spell on him.
**There was no point in seeing a guy more than once or they’d get ideas I was a f*** buddy or worse, a girlfriend. I loathed when they remembered. It was like they were a ghost who never stopped haunting me
**This summer had spectacular written all over it in permanent marker. I had a reputation in Malibu, one people thought I shouldn’t be proud of. Every summer for the last six years, I came here and partied. I was the b**** who every girl envied and every guy wanted to bang. Cliché, some say, but I was worth it. I had a trademark of loving and leaving when the sun rose. To my naysayers, I was toxic, like a vampire’s kiss, but they were only envious. At least that’s how I took it.**
BREAKING DOWN SYDNEY by Brittney Coon
•School vs Vacation
Breaking Down Sydney is Book 2 of Brittney Coon’s trilogy. I recommend reading the complete trilogy starting with Book 1 and reading them in order. This picks up where Shades of Sydney (Book One) left off, with Sydney and Amelia heading back to campus after their summer vacation in Malibu. Where they met and hooked up with Hunter and Jason. Sydney tells her gay guy friends about their summer romance but then has the guys leave because she can’t look at the love her friends have while missing Jason so much.
Although Sydney didn’t want to, she missed Jason like missing a piece of herself. She never thought she’d be the type that’d not only be in a relationship but missing someone. She was the love ’em & leave ’em before the sun is up type after all… But of course, that was BEFORE Jason. He was the first guy she’d EVER said “I love you” to, but she meant it. However she still wasn’t sure if their relationship could last the distance & they wouldn’t see each other for another 4 months!!
Sydney also still refuses to see her dying father. She cannot understand why people don’t understand he’s already been dead to her for years because of everything he put her and her mother thru, why don’t they get it? He hurt her enough when she was a child, she’s not going to allow it when she’s an adult and can prevent it. Sydney still lives by her sayings… “Be careful what you wish for because it might come true.” Does she finally break down and go see him? BIG surprises are in store inside the pages of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the changes within Sydney! Each story gets better and better. I do not know how Brittney continues to pull me in and glue me to the story page after page, but she has. I rate this story with 5 stars and I cannot wait to read book 3 to read what is next within Sydney & Jason’s lives, as well as Amelia & Hunter’s. It has been an amazing love, yet growing up story. I’m off to read Piecing Together Sydney- A Sydney West Novel, Book 3. Due to sexual situations, this book is recommended for readers 17 and older! I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
**I’m like a butterfly, pretty to look at but once captured I freak out and die.**
**You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams**
PIECING TOGETHER SYDNEY– A Sydney West Novel, Book 3 by Brittney Coon
•Is Happily Ever After Possible?
Piecing Together Sydney is the conclusion of the Sydney West trilogy, I recommend reading the complete trilogy starting with Book 1 and reading them in order. WoW how things have changed for Sydney in the last year. It’s once again summer, which means off to Malibu. This time though instead of being a party girl looking for summer boys, this year she has a fiancé. Gone were the days of having her name on every list at nightclubs in L.A. as well as having plans filled with parties and days were wasted lying in bed, sleeping off God knew what. She’s gone from someone who didn’t believe in love only one night stands, to being engaged and getting married this summer. Each summer she added to her album, it had twenty one years of summers, the last six filled with parties. This year it was time for a new album, a wedding album! Sydney put off making arrangements for the wedding while she was finishing school, she wanted to focus on that first. Amelia is her wedding planner, the only things that got checked off the list were the venues. Those couldn’t wait until the last minute. So now that they’ve arrived in Malibu, it was wedding planning crunch time. Sydney knew Jason was the only guy she ever wanted to touch her again and he was her forever man. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t scared. She hasn’t had the best role model for lasting relationships. But she and Jason both agreed they’d be different then their parents, they had that in common, lousy rotten fathers! But they’d have their own happily ever after right?
There are a lot of twists, turns and unexpected happenings in this story. It is well worth taking your time to read it, the complete series is! You could just pick up this portion and figure out what’s going on, but it’s more than worth it to start from the beginning and read about Sydney’s journey. The transformation she embarks is tough, but amazing. I smiled a LOT, laughed, cried, was scared, worried, happily ecstatic, as well as thoroughly pissed off. To say Brittney hit the rainbow of emotions while writing this story would be an understatement! But I LOVED every bit of it! I give her 5+ stars! Due to sexual situations, this book is recommended for readers 17 and older! I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
**He didn’t give up on me and there were some many reasons to last summer. This summer it was my turn to help Jason heal from the deep scars from the past.
**Jon Voight, “Sometimes a little heartbreak is a lesson, and the best thing to do is just learn the lesson.”
**Jason was broken like I was. We were tossed away by those who claimed they loved us. It was their loss, for we found each other and I was never letting him go. He was my peanut butter and I his jelly.
** Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.
**My heart couldn’t see with the film of ice, but Jason warmed it and finally everything made sense.
**Lao Tzu, “Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” How true those words were. I was never going to let Jason go. No matter what. He was my strength, my courage, and my light in the darkest of times. And now he was going to be my husband.
**What I truly learned after all these years was love was an undying flower in the crack of cement. Nothing would kill it. I drew strength from the love of my family and friends.
I, Sydney Anne King, was completely whole. A broken heart was a thing of the past. As sappy as it sounded, love did heal all wounds. Jason saved my life and I repaid him as many times I could. No, we saved each other. What a wonderful life we had and I looked forward to the future and all the memories we’d make.
