Synopsis: Elusive charmer Cash Walker is a tough-as-nails cowboy, except when it comes to the shy woman who shows up with a pretty smile, a wounded spirit, and a goat riding shotgun in her passenger seat. Recently divorced from an abusive husband, Emma Frank has come home to Broken Falls, Montana. Lost, alone, and unable to escape the bullying tactics of her ex-brothers-in-law, she finds solace and friendship at the Tucked Away farm and with the handsome cowboy who believes in her and who helps her find her own courage.

There’s a darkness in Cash’s past that’s kept him from ever letting anyone get too close, but he can’t seem to stay away from Emma, who seems to be the one to finally break through his tough exterior and steal this cowboy’s heart.

He looked down at her, and his heart swelled with the love and compassion he saw shining in her eyes.
“Thank you,” she said.
“Thank you? What the hell are you thanking me for? For telling you that I’m an emotionally closed-off broken man?”
“For telling me your story.” She reached up and caressed his cheek. “And we’re all broken. We all have things in our past that form who we are now. I thought I was broken, thought my heart was so torn apart that it wouldn’t ever work again, that I wouldn’t ever be able to feel anything real again. And that I’d never be able to care for another man. But meeting you started my heart beating again. And even in the short time I’ve known you, my heart acts like it’s been waiting for you all along.”
Her words flowed through him, like a salve to his bruised and shaken soul. “I haven’t cared enough about anyone since then to want to take the chance on—to risk letting myself get caught up with—to hazard giving them my heart.”
“You can take a chance on me.”
He looked into her eyes, and he believed her. He’d been alone for so long, and she was the first person he’d wanted to try having a relationship with. The first person who made his heart stand up and take notice.
Hell, it wasn’t just his heart that took notice when she was around. Every part of him responded to the simple nearness of her.
Looking at her now, her eyes full of care and her lips slightly parted—rose-colored and full—and just waiting to be kissed.
“I already have.” Leaning down, he took her mouth, captured it in his, kissing her with all the passion and hunger that he felt for her. He’d bared his soul, and she hadn’t gone running.
In fact, she’d snuggled closer and held out her own heart.
And he didn’t want to hurt her. Ever.
If he took her heart, he vowed to protect it, to protect her, to never let her be hurt again.

(REVIEW) STOLEN AWAY (Hearts of Montana #3) by Jennie Marts

Emma is newly divorced from her abusive husband, who’s currently sitting in jail on attempted murder charges while she’s trying to start over. Unfortunately her ex-brother-in-laws and the rest of her ex’s family think everything is her fault. They keep causing her to lose every job she’s started since getting away from her Leroy, so she’s had to move back in with her father. Emma runs into Cash Walker when she has to return Clyde their runaway goat, who she remembers having a crush on him in high school. He offers to help her get a a job where he knows Junior and Earl won’t bother her. Something in her gut told her she could trust him. Cash Walker is the first guy in a long time that hadn’t turned her stomach, instead he’d caused flickers of desire to sputter to life inside her. At least she’d thought it was desire. It had been so long since she’d felt any sort of attraction to a man that she wasn’t sure she really recognize’d the signs. It could have been hunger pains or gas or all she remembers.
While helping an ewe in labor, Cash the lead ranch hand on Tucked Away farm hears Emma’s car pull in, he heads out to help her because the stubborn bull has blocked the driveway again. However she doesn’t need any help, by honking her horn and hollering at him the ornery bull moves out of the way. She then surprises him again when she jumps into the pen with the laboring ewe to remove the membrane from the baby lambs face so it could breathe. She mentioned needing to find a job where the boys couldn’t harass her and get her fired, he knew just the job for her! He also knew she was skittish because of the abuse she’d dealt with from her ex, so he didn’t try to lay on the normal charm he used with women. He knew she was like a scared animal, but something about her tugged at his heart. Her grin caused a couple dozen butterflies to flutter in his stomach, and his heart warmed at the small victory of earning even a tiny smile. What is it about this woman that caused his hands to sweat and his heart to pound a little harder? No woman had ever captured Cash’s elusive heart, so within 30 minutes in, quiet almost painfully shy Emma’s presence did it feel like a vise was around his heart? **A nice, sweet woman who had no business hanging out with the likes of him, and who he had no business getting involved with. But something drew him to her, and he couldn’t get her out of his mind.**(direct book quote). **She was different than any other woman in his life. Special. Something about her touched his heart and made all of his protective instincts kick in.**(direct book quote)
Could two broken down souls help heal each other? Could Cash and Emma trust what they’re feeling or should they just walk away and only be friends? But could either of them do that with the electrifying attraction they have? How far will Leroy’s brothers go to antagonize her? You’ll have to read STOLEN AWAY to find out! Although this is book 3 of the Heart of Montana series, it’s the first one that I’ve read. It could be read as a standalone, but I’m going to read the first two to see what I missed with the other characters. I loved it, It’s a very well written heartfelt emotional story. I received an ARC copy via IndieSage in exchange for a blog tour review. Due to sexual situations, this book is recommended for readers 17 and older!
~“I’ll show you a trick my mom taught me. You can use a cheese grater to grate the frozen butter. Then it mixes with your dry ingredients slick as can be.”
~She was different than any other woman in his life. Special. Something about her touched his heart and made all of his protective instincts kick in.
