Synopsis
Marina Rossi is a tornado of personal chaos, always stumbling into trouble no matter how hard she tries not to. After being scarred by her family and placed into foster care as a teenager, she finds solace with Jasen until he’s moved to a new home. Because of all she’s endured, her biggest fear is being alone and her only goal in life is to create a loving family.

Jasen “Dex” Dexter aged out of the foster care system and dove straight into a career as a sniper in the Army. After nine years of service his platoon was ambushed, forever changing the course of his life. Now a police officer, Dex is known for being patient, calculated and methodical. He enjoys the solitude his life provides and wants to keep it that way.

Dex’s perfectly arranged life is turned on its head when he encounters Marina in a compromising situation. Even after twelve years apart it only takes them seconds to recognize one another. As Marina faces more trouble than one woman should, Dex feels his orderly life slipping away. While he tries to sort out his conflicted feelings, Marina becomes the target of a crazed stalker. If Dex doesn’t make a decision, it might be too late for both of them.

Excerpt ~

That night Jase slipped into my bed this time and held me again. I’ll never forget the feel of his bony arms wrapped around me. You’d think it was uncomfortable, but it wasn’t. His arms provided a safety I couldn’t remember feeling before then and haven’t since.
Jase whispered into my ear, “Tomorrow they’re gonna separate us, Mari.” He wasn’t Spanish but his Spanish accent was strong when he called me that. It sounded like he was saying Ma-dee. “I heard them talking downstairs. They don’t want us to get too close.” He moved his hand down between us, placing something cold in my hand and said, “I want you to have this. It was my grandma’s. The picture fell out a long time ago but it’s real silver and it’s pretty. You deserve pretty things, Mari. You deserve more than what you’ve been given.”
“I can’t take your grandma’s locket.”
“Yeah, you can. You deserve it. Someday when you find someone you love you can put their picture inside and wear it close to your heart.”
“Jase,” I whispered as emotion clogged my throat.
“Don’t let anyone hurt you anymore. If there’s another boy like Freddy, tell on him. I won’t be there to help you.” He moved his arm around me and pulled me tight to his chest while I clung to the silver locket in my hand.
“Jase—”
“Mari, shhh.”
I didn’t want to upset him so I nuzzled in close to him and fell asleep. When I woke the next morning, I was alone. I jumped up, threw my clothes on and ran downstairs, afraid that he was gone and I wouldn’t get to say goodbye. The social worker was passing through the doorway and I caught sight of Jase’s royal blue T-shirt he wore often already in front of her.
I thumped my way down the stairs at warp speed and screamed his name as I rushed out through the screen door and flung myself at him. I knew he couldn’t stay, but my heart was breaking and I couldn’t help but beg him. I needed someone with me who didn’t try to use me for sexual favors, who protected me, who cared about me.
“Please, please, please don’t go!” I begged as if he had control of what was happening.
He held me close while I wrapped myself around his scrawny body and held tight, all the while crying. The social worker said something I couldn’t hear clearly above my sobs and I felt his body jerk and heard him say, “Give me a minute, will ya? Hasn’t she been through enough? Let us say goodbye.”
“Mari. Mari, stop. Listen to me. I can’t stay. They won’t let me. But remember what I said. Take care of you. Protect yourself at all costs and tell if you have to. Don’t let anyone take advantage of you ever again. Mari, you’re beautiful and sweet and amazing, so much better than the rest of us. Keep the locket close to you and know I’ll always think of you.” Then he kissed the side of my head because he wasn’t tall enough to reach the top. As he stepped away and climbed in the backseat of the car he said, “You’re gonna be okay.”
The last glimpse I had of Jasen Dexter was of his gorgeous aquamarine eyes luminous with tears that sat on the edges of his eyelids but never fell. He was tough as nails even back then

Finding Heart (Colorado Veteran Book 2) by Tiffani Lynn
• Locket
What a tear jerking prologue, but DEF a way to get you to dive right in! OH BOY!!! I’m gonna tell you now that you’re gonna need a WHOLE BOX of tissues while you read this story, but man is it worth it! There will be lots of tears through hurt, pain, and most of all love. I wondered if Dex(aka Jase) and Marina(aka Mari) would ever find their true happiness or would forever be in pain alone. You’ll have to read Finding Heart to find out. This is the 2nd book I’ve read by Tiffani as well as the 2nd story in this series. While they are their own standalone HEA love stories, they do flow together. I cannot wait to see what’s next in Finding Passion (Colorado Veterans Book 3) due August 2017. I voluntarily reviewed ARC of this book via IndieSage for an honest blog tour review. Due to sexual and adult situations this novel is recommended for readers 18 and older.

Finding Purpose (Colorado Veteran Book 1) by Tiffani Lynn
•‘Get busy living or get busy dying’
Sometimes you don’t know how much your life will change in an instant. When you find that one true love and leave it behind or it leaves you behind you have to make a choice. Will you stay in that sorrowful rut of pain and loss and allow it too ruin your entire life, or will you push it to the back of your mind (or at least try/pretend to) and continue to make something of yourself? That is just the scenario of Quinn and Judson’s story. There will be lots of tears through hurt, pain, and most of all love. I was hooked from the beginning wondering what was going to happen next, as well as wondering if either of them will find thier happiness they both not only crave but deserve. In order to find that out for yourself you’re going to have to read Finding Purpose for yourself, it’ll be worth your time! This is my first Tiffani Lynn story, but it won’t be my last! I am excitedly waiting for Finding Heart (Colorado Veterans Book 2) due June 2017. I voluntarily reviewed ARC of this book via IndieSage for an honest blog tour review. Due to sexual and adult situations this novel is recommended for readers 18 and older.

Excerpt ~

As soon as he cut the engine outside the barn, he heard a large crash from inside followed by a slew of curses.

Haley.

With his gut knotted tight, he crossed the yard and entered on a sprint. “Haley…Jesus,” he muttered, finding her underneath a pegboard and a pile of tools. Sharp ones. Shit.

“Now you show up,” she scoffed.

He hoisted the peg board and tossed it aside. “What the hell happened?”

“Had a fight with a wall and lost.” A smirk twitched her full lips and gleamed in her whiskey gaze.

“That’s not funny.”

“Damn straight.” She frowned. “It hurts like a bitch.”

He ran a hand through his hair. “How the hell did you manage to knock this over?”

“Quite well, actually.”

Smartass.

He knelt beside her and leveled his gaze on her. “That’s not what I meant, and you know it.”

“Did I?” She tipped her chin and narrowed her eyes. “Hard to tell underneath all that accusation and condemnation dripping from your tone. I’m not one of your Rangers, Warlock. That hard stare of yours won’t work on me.”

Christ. He didn’t need this shit.

She made to get up, pushing a few tools out of the way, and that’s when he noticed the blood dripping down her arm.

“Stay still,” he ordered, grasping her unharmed arm to hold her steady. “Let me have a look.”

A quick inspection deemed it deep but not stitch-worthy, thank God. He yanked off his shirt and wrapped it around her arm, ignoring her gasp as he tied it tight until he could get her in the house for some proper first aid. But he didn’t want her moving until he examined the rest of her body for injuries.

With his training kicking in, he ran his hands over her, noting a small cut on her cheek, another on the back of her hand, and a bruise on her other wrist, no doubt from covering her face.

“You okay?” he asked, staring into her dazed eyes. “Are you hurt anywhere else?”

She blinked and focused her gaze on his face, then shook her head after she opened her mouth and nothing came out.

Christ.

His insides twisted when he took in the mash of clippers, hammers, screwdrivers, and pliers scattered around them. She was lucky. So damn lucky.

After helping her to her feet, he bent to scoop her in his arms.

“W-what are you doing?” She wiggled as he carried her across the yard, trying his damndest not to notice the soft curves brushing his chest.

“Taking you inside to fix your arm. Stay still.” Awareness already spread through his body, waking up parts that had no business enjoying the feel of his dead friend’s widow cradled against him.

Haley grunted. “I can walk.”

“Good to know,” he replied, but continued to hold her as he stepped onto the porch. “Get the door.”

With a loud sigh, she reached out and twisted the knob. “Okay, you can put me down now.”

“Where’s your first aid kit?” he asked, ignoring her protests.

She closed her mouth and stared at him, her eyes twin pools of pissed-off brown. God, she was gorgeous. And damn, he did not need to have his arms full of her hot curves.

He muttered an oath. “You can keep quiet all you want, but I’m just going to stand here and hold you until you tell me.”

Even if it killed him.

Review ~
The Right Ranger (The Men of At Ease Ranch #3) by Donna Michaels
•Trust
Another GREAT At Ease story, I cannot wait to read what comes next. No matter what is going on as soon as I get my grubby hands on one of her stories I can’t wait to sit back, kick up my feet and read what’s happening with the guys on the ranch, they all deserve their happily ever after. Each story is its own standalone HRA love story but each one builds a bigger picture while you get individual backgrounds of one specific couple. I haven’t read any of Donna’s other series yet but just by the titles they make me want to jump right in and see how hot they are. This is Cord and Haley’s story, two people whom want the other but are afraid to act upon their attraction because of Drew….. The one ranger who didn’t make it home with them. You’ll have to read The Right Ranger (The Men of At Ease Ranch #3) to find out their story, oh but it’s MORE than worth the time! I cannot wait for the next At Ease story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book via Tasty Book Tours through NetGalley for an honest blog tour review. Due to sexual situations and adult language this novel is recommended for readers 18 and older!

Her Secret Ranger (The Men of At Ease Ranch #2) by Donna Michaels
Secret Cowboy
Another awesome story about the men of At Ease Ranch! This is the first series that I’ve read by Donna, but it won’t be the last. With the way the story unfolds one you start reading you cannot put it down until you reach the finale. Beth has returned to where her former Ranger brother has made a home for himself at the At Ease Ranch, for work and get best friends wedding. Being just one town away means she gets to see him more often than she has for the last few years. Now that she’s back she ended up meeting up with her weekend hook-up from a few weekends ago, whom she had a fabulous time with. But she had a feeling he’s former military so she doesn’t mention him to get over-protective brother. While getting to know Brick outside of the bed she finds out he’s a former Ranger, which means her brother and him have something in common and it might work in their favor, but then again Cord is very overly-protective of her. But do Brick and Cord have more in common than Beth knows? You’ll have to read Her Secret Ranger to find out. I loved this story as well as the series, I cannot wait to see what happens next and get MORE Men of At Ease Ranch. Each story is it’s own standalone story of the men on the ranch, you won’t be lost if this were there first book of the series you decided to pick up. But with that being said you’d miss some background information from book about another couple who found their HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this HEA via Tasty Book Tours through NetGalley for an honest blog tour review. Due to sexual situations and adult language this novel is recommended for readers 18 and older!

In A Ranger’s Arms (The Men of At Ease Ranch #1) by Donna Michaels
•Changes
Stone Mitchum, his brother Brick and their buddies Vince and Cord all former Army Rangers are building At-Ease Ranch *to give returning veterans a purpose, a reason to exist, and a place to stay on their ranch, if needed.(*direct book quote), in Joyful Texas. Besides running the ranch, they have Foxtrot Construction as well as renting out downtown storefronts to help bring in fund to help those returning veterans.
Jovy was sent to this cattle town by her grandfather, to set up a successful business as a contest between her and her cousin. So he could decide which of the two would be the next CEO so he could retire. However there’s a major twist….. These beef eating cowboys are not going to want to eat at a gluten-free, vegan café. This is a huge obstical, however how in the world is she going to get this done with the instant attraction that sizzles between her and her landlord Stone Mitchum? The attraction zinging between them could start an electrical storm with a raging fire in the pouring Derain. Absolutely nothing could’ve prepared her for the memorable event of their kiss!
To see what happens between Stone and Jovy you’ll have to read In A Rangers Arms. I absolutely loved this story! It deals with some PTSD issues that could be troublesome to some that are sensitive to those issues. What a great story!! I received an ARC via IndieSage through NetGalley in exchange for an honest blog tour review.
Favorite Passages~
~ all business and no play makes Stone a very dull rock.

Tasty Q&A with Donna Michaels

•Describe yourself in five words or less.

I love to entertain readers.

•Name one thing you won’t leave home without.

My cellphone. Yep, I’m one of them. But only because I am usually waiting for an email or message from an author, publisher, editor…etc, and need to multitask my personal life errands into my day, too.

•What types of scenes are your most favorite to write?

My favorite scenes to write are the sparring scenes between the hero and heroine. When the hero has met his match, or vice versa . There were several of those scenes in The Right Ranger.

•Are there certain characters you would like to go back to, or is there a theme or idea you’d love to work with?

Yes, there are several characters I’d love to go back to, but shhh…don’t tell my other ones. The two that immediately come to mind are Kit Katt and Pierce DeVein from my humorous paranormal, The Spy Who Fanged Me. They are agents from different departments. She’s a black panther shifter and he’s a vampire and they’re forced to work together to bring down a dangerous gnome. Kit was by far the most fun I ever had writing a heroine. Between her can do attitude, her capabilities, and the fact she has catlike tendencies that get in the way at the most inopportune times, I would love to write another mission for her and her man/vampire. 😊

•Can you tell us about your upcoming book?

Right now, I’m writing book 4 in The Men of At Ease Ranch series. This is Vince’s book. He’s been the easygoing happy guy throughout the series, and longs to have a relationship like his buddies have found. But, it’s like they say, be careful what you wish for. He’s discovering that his idea of the ideal significant other is flawed, relationships aren’t always easy, and they come when you least expect it. He is definitely one of my fun characters to write.

Excerpt~

May 2013

Kacie Morgan raised the cloudy glass tumbler to her lips and licked the course salt from its rim, all the while surveying the bar, knowing she was officially in hell. Despite it being a fairly new establishment—and a nice place as far as bars went—it just wasn’t her scene. The cowboy hats and cowboy boots. The painted-on jeans that both the men and women wore. The line dancing and mechanical bull.

Then there was the fact she couldn’t stand country music. She might have been born and raised in the South, but the appreciation for songs about racing pickups down red dirt roads, getting drunk on Jack, and skinny-dipping in farm ponds must have skipped a generation.

She sighed and turned back around, catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror behind the bar.

Dear God in the heavens. She shouldn’t have looked.

She squeezed her eyes shut and tossed back the remnants of her margarita on the rocks. A tang and tart shiver raced the length of her spine, her body squirming involuntarily to shake it off.

Her empty glass met the cow-print bar top a little heavier than intended, the upside being it garnered the bartender’s attention. “Another?” He shouted to be heard over the music.

“Sure,” she said. “Why the hell not?”

He came over to clear away the empty glass and his eyes roamed her chest as he took his damn sweet time to read the front of her shirt. She didn’t have to glance at the mirror again to know the club lights ignited the rhinestones across her shirt, the word bridesmaid glimmering in the relative dark like a ’70s disco ball.

“Eight weeks,” she chanted to herself. “Eight. More. Weeks.”

Just eight weeks until the bachelorette weekend, the holiday weekend, the rehearsal dinner, the wedding, all of it would be over. Her baby sister would be happily married and, more importantly, her maid of honor duties would be complete. No longer would she have to be overly friendly to women who were not her friends. No longer would she be guilted into wearing questionable attire or spending money she didn’t have on all of the cutesy little things they wanted her to “chip in” on.

Kacie handed the bartender a few bills as he returned with her drink, then resumed leaning against the bar, watching as the country music gave way to hip-hop and the puritans bolted for the bars and seated areas. In the span of a few minutes, the dance floor became an instant bump and grind session for anyone under the age of twenty-five or with more than a few drinks in them.

In a sea of cowboy hats and baseball caps, her baby sister was easy to spot. The rhinestone tiara with attached veil on her head glittered in the pulsing lights as she bopped around the dance floor. And all the other bridesmaids were right there with her.

If she were a better maid of honor, a better big sister, she’d suck it up and join them. But she just couldn’t find it in herself to move. Ever since her well-planned future with a man she loved—or at the very least thought she loved—had taken a deep dive into the toilet nine months earlier, she found having fun an almost impossible feat. How sad. How pathetic.

With a pang, Kacie realized at the age of thirty-one she’d become what she always feared most—a total buzzkill

What a way to start a great book! I was smiling and sucked I’m from the get go! There’s lots of spunk throughout this story. Will one night be enough… No! Q&A with Cheryl

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I really enjoyed the early interactions between Michael and Kacie for this book but especially the scene where they have sex the first time. The conversation is so shallow and matter-of-fact since they’ve agreed to just use each other for sex.

I also loved the argument between Michael and his sister-in-law. Bree has been more like a sibling to him for so many years that it’s only fair they’d argue in the same way he and his brother argue. Politeness be damned!

What gave you the most trouble with this story?

When I started this book, I hadn’t planned on Michael sufferingfrom PTSD. But when I began the editing process and reading it from the beginning, I realized all the clues were there. He doesn’t really talk about his issues although it’s clear those who know him best realize something is a bit off. And whenever the suggestion is made that he speak to a therapist, he blows it off because he doesn’t believe his problems are bad enough to warrant treatment. Which I think, sadly, is an accurate representation for so many of those who serve in special operations units.

Name three things on your desk right now.

A small crystal pig with pink wings named Penelope. I have always loved the expression “When pigs fly!” and have always taken great pleasure in proving people wrong.

A two-year-old fortune that says “You’ll never know what you can do until you try.” I found it in my fortune cookie at a time when I was debating whether or not I was read to query literary agents.

A small Galah figurine given to me by the Australian family I lived with while on foreign exchange in high school. They had rescued an injured Galah, which is a type of cockatoo, and taught this bird to say my name. That damn bird made me crazy because he would sometimes escape when I came home from school and then proceed to hide high up in a tree while calling my name over and over, taunting me.

If you could have dinner with any three authors (alive or dead), who would you choose and why?

My first instinct was to say Jane Austen, but I fear she’d end up being a disappointment and ruining my perception of her. Ernest Hemingway would have to be my number one since his personal life was as exciting as his stories. Second would be Dorothy Parker since she had zero problem saying exactly what she thought. Throw in the fact she was blacklisted in Hollywood, I can only imagine the dirt she knew. Number three would have to be Stephen King. I’d love to know what his childhood was like and whether or not his own writing gives him nightmares.

What are you favorite types of stories to read?

I absolutely adore historical romances. They are always my go-to read when I’m in a bad mood or a writing rut. I love all that despite a ton of societal rules, there were women who willingly ignored them and threw caution to the wind. Personally, I like to think had I lived during the Regency era that I’d have been one of those women who wore pants and rode astride and basically thumbed her nose to everyone who dared say “You shouldn’t do that!”

How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?

There was a built in desk in my bedroom growing up and it being the only desk in the house, that’s where the Selectric typewriter lived. When I was in elementary school, my mother would write youth soccer recaps for the local paper and when she was done I would sit down and mimic her. I don’t recall ever writing fiction. Instead, I wrote recaps of the Olympics and Super Bowls. In school I always excelled at creative writing but it wasn’t until I was in college, at the encouragement of a professor, I switched from Accounting to Journalism. After graduating, I always wrote for work, but never for myself. Then when my oldest was born, I quit writing altogether for about six years until I found an online community and began writing fanfiction. Through that I made a friend who was a member of RWA and encouraged me to attend the national conference with her in 2011. The rest is history.

When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?

When I began working on this story five years ago, it was the story of a doctor who’d just left the army and was trying to find his way in the civilian world. Sadly, my hero was, in a word, boring. He was too nice. Too polite. He was just… ugh. But I kept at him and gave him a brother and father and he began taking shape. By the time I actually started to like Michael MacGregor, I realized his story would be better if his younger brother’s story came first. So I went back to square one and began working on ONCE AND FOR ALL. When I returned to Michael’s original story last year, I had to scrap most of it because some scenes were more like Danny and otherscenes were more like Lucky (the hero in HERE AND NOW). So I had to practically start completely over, but this time I knew exactly who Michael MacGregor was and what he’d been through.

What do you do when you are not writing?

As a mom of three, I’m usually pretty busy when I’m not writing. There’s always a kitchen to be cleaned or laundry to be folded or a kid to be driven somewhere. And now my oldest has her learner’s permit and I’m the one she drives with the most. So that’s always fun. Not really.

Are there certain characters you would like to go back to, or is there a theme or idea you’d love to work with?

I love that I was given the opportunity to bring Michael and Danny’s mother to life in this book thanks to my editor suggesting I include a flashback. If there is one couple I would love to write, it would be their parents. I would love to see Mac MacGregor fall head over heels in love with Lily.
